The two engines we’re building are for the New York Super Stock Series. The engine rules for the series are fairly straightforward;
- Stock Iron Block or Dart SHP Block, 0.060” Overbore Max
- Stock Cast Iron Heads (062 or 904 Vortec Heads Allowed)
- 10.0 : 1 Max Compression Ratio
- Dual Plane Edelbrock Intake
- Holley 4412 2-Barrel Carb
- Wet Sump, Flat Tappets, ETC
This rules package is very similar to many other Sportsman style circle track classes racing all over the country. This includes;
- Limited Late Models
- Late Model Stocks
- Sportsman Modifieds
- SK Modifieds
- countless other classes racing on both asphalt and dirt.
While this specific build is for asphalt Super Stocks in NY, hopefully the steps outlined during this assembly can help others build engines on their own.
We’ve built two motors before for this series, one in 2016 and another in 2018. The 2016 build made 435 hp on 110 race gas, the 2018 build made 445hp. We built both of those engines for less than $8500 each.
But it’s now 2023, post Covid inflation and part supply disruptions, and there’s no way to build those engines for the same price. Additionally, I’ll be building these engines in Los Angeles. But I think we can make more power with a comparable budget, and I’ll lay out exactly how we do so here.

I want this to become an ongoing project, if there’s any information you think is missing or would like to know about these builds please comment on the posts or let me know directly. Also if you think anything we post is incorrect and you have CREDITABLE DATA that supports your claim, please let us know so we can correct any errors. The last thing we want is for someone to build an engine incorrectly based on what was published on this website.
