Building engines always takes longer than you think. We’ve built two motors for this class before, neither were completed in time for the start of the season. This time I thought I got ahead of the curve by ordering the rotating assemblies back in November – part suppliers thought otherwise.
It’s now April 8th. The machine shop just finished the first block. The heads are at another machine shop, hopefully they’ll be done next week. There is no way the engines will be ready before the start of the NYSS Season. But that’s no longer the goal. I work on Honda’s IndyCar program, and I leave for the Month of May on May 10th. Two long blocks – one month.
The clock is running.
My landlord is letting me use a little bit of space in the back of his garage. We’ll pick up tools as we go. We’re going to find out exactly how little it takes to build a race engine.
Let’s go.
